For all you boomers out there looking to do some audio recording on your iPads and iPhones but don’t want to rely on the on board microphone, the iRig Microphone from IK Multimedia may just be what you’re looking for.
The iPad and iPhone have numerous apps that let you record music, podcasts and more including the amazing GarageBand. So while the internal mic may be ok for some, a lot of boomers out there might be looking for something with a bit more “high-fidelity”.
Enter the iRig Microphone. Housed in a sturdy metal frame, it feels weighty and legitimate. There is a monitor input at the base of the headphone connector that allows you to connect some headphones. This is imperative so you can record and not get bleed from other sources.
The mic has a three way toggle that lets you input gain from low to high. Your source will depend on how you use this. I’ve mainly used this mic for recording ukulele for Garage Band for my iPad. The condenser mic picked up the ukulele strings with great accuracy and left the background noise in the dust.
Vocals also sounded nice and it felt good to hold the actual mic instead of pretending to know where the mic is on the iPad! The mic comes with a synthetic carrying case and a mic stand mount which is good for hands free operation.
The price is very reasonable ($60) for a entry level condenser mic so it’s great for the boomer looking to be able to record on the go. Check it out!
